Malin To Star in “The Romantics”

Malin is set to star in “The Romantics” – a film that will also star Katie Holmes, Anna Paquin, Josh Duhamel, Elijah Wood and Adam Brody! The movie is set to start filming this week in New York…

Katie Holmes has replaced Liv Tyler in the independently financed comedy “The Romantics.”

The actress has come aboard to topline and exec produce the pic, which also stars Anna Paquin, Josh Duhamel, Malin Akerman, Elijah Wood, Adam Brody and Jeremy Strong.

Team Todd, Plum Pictures and Benaroya Pictures are producing.

Project, which had originally been scheduled to lense in the summer, begins shooting this week in New York.

Film revolves around eight friends from college who reunite for a wedding. Holmes, fresh off her role in Miramax’s “Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark,” will play Laura, the maid of honor to Anna Paquin’s Lila, the bride. Laura and Lila are best friends who both have a past with the groom (Duhamel).

Screenplay was adapted by Galt Niederhoffer from her novel; she will also direct.

Team Todd’s Jennifer and Suzanne Todd will produce alongside Plum Pictures’ Daniela Taplin Lundberg and Benaroya’s Michael Benaroya and Taylor Kephart.

Malin Akerman’s Fine with Fame — as Long as She’s Not Robert Pattinson

Actress Malin Akerman’s career has been on an upward trajectory since her breakout role on the short-lived Lisa Kudrow series The Comeback. Since then, Akerman has gone psycho in The Heartbreak Kid with Ben Stiller, played a superhero in Zack Snyder’s Watchmen, and is currently starring in one of this year’s biggest comedy hits, Couples Retreat.

In the October issue of 944 magazine, Akerman talked about some of her upcoming projects and discussed the price of fame. For her next film, she’s taking a break from comedy for a dramatic role.

Yes, The Bang Bang Club — it’s based on a true story of two photojournalists’ journey through the end of Apartheid — I play the photo editor. The story’s incredible and it’s really raw. We used a lot of locals and shot in all the same places where things happened.

Akerman will return to comedy in writer-director Josh Radnor’s HappyThankYouMorePlease, an ensemble piece that Malin calls her “love.”

I play a woman with alopecia universalis. I shaved off my eyebrows for the part and wore a bald cap. It’s about all of our journeys to find love — and obviously I have added difficulties as a bald woman. It’s [about] her trying to stay positive.

The more projects Akerman does, the more famous she becomes, a situation she says is “manageable” for the time being.

I couldn’t imagine being Robert Pattinson right now. That would scare the sh– out of me. I’d rather be able to walk out the door have a life.

Akerman: ‘Retreat is about real couples’

Malin Akerman has said that her new film Couples Retreat is more realistic than other movies about relationships.

The actress told Parade that the comedy was unusual in that it showed the sides both of men and women rather than one or the other.

Akerman said: “The one thing that drew me to the script from the beginning was that it was about couples and real relationships, which you don’t usually see in movies.

“Usually, it’s the guys’ club, or you have all the women together, like in Sex And The City.”

She added: “I know people are always fascinated with Hollywood relationships where there does seem to be a lot of brief encounters.

“You see stars who get married two weeks after they meet, which, of course, is going to end up most likely in a divorce. I’d say maybe 2% of the time you’ll end up having a fabulous, long-lived relationship. So you have to be careful and not just fall into something.”

Earlier this year, Akerman told DS that she was happy to be “one of the guys” in the primarily male cast of superhero movie Watchmen.
